Indian badminton player Ashmita Chaliha has spoken out against playing conditions at the Indonesia Masters Super 100 tournament, questioning the inconsistency in organizational standards across the BWF World Tour circuit. In her recorded remarks, Chaliha described the venue atmosphere as seemingly shrouded in fog and smoke, conditions she deemed unsuitable for professional sports competition. She stated: "If this tournament were held in India, how heavily would it be criticized? Why are standards so different between countries?" Chaliha's criticism stands out against the backdrop of Indian tournaments, particularly the India Open, which have faced rigorous scrutiny regarding air quality, temperature, and hygiene conditions. Previously, Danish player Anders Antonsen was fined after withdrawing from the 2026 India Open over pollution concerns. Similarly, player Mia Blichfeldt had publicly expressed hygiene concerns at the tournament. However, India has just successfully hosted the World Badminton Championships in New Delhi - an event praised by professionals. This marked the first time in 17 years that India hosted the prestigious tournament. She advanced past the round of 32 by defeating Pornpicha Choeikeewong with scores of 21-17, 23-21, before reaching the quarterfinals with a victory over former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei with scores of 10-21, 21-10, 21-17. The Indonesia Masters Super 100 belongs to the lowest tier in the BWF World Tour system, with the lowest prize money and ranking points among the five tournament tiers.
